WHEN are you needed? |
|
| Usually every year for a Primary Election in early May and a General Election scheduled in November. | |
| (In a Presidential election year, the Primary is in March.) | |
| Special elections can be held in February and August. | |
| Hours - 6:00 a.m. until all work is completed (about 8:00 p.m.) | |
| Election days are the first Tuesday after the first Monday. | |
WHY are you needed? More than 218 poll workers are needed to conduct a countywide election in Ottawa County. The state of Ohio enjoys a national reputation for conducting honest and well organized elections. It needs you to help maintain this tradition. |

Are you ELIGIBLE ? Yes, if you are:

WHAT do you have to do? - Report for work at 6:00 A.M. on Election Day - Prepare your precinct for voting - Process the voters (help them sign in and distribute the ballots) - Demonstrate procedures of voting to the voters - Close the precinct - Certify the work done at the precinct - (Presiding Judge) picks up the ballots & supplies prior to election day and then delivers the election materials and ballots to the Board office at the close of Election Day |

WHAT TRAINING is needed? Attend an instruction class once every three years (as mandated by law) minimum. Sessions are usually held in October. When new equipment, new laws, and new procedures are implemented, training may be more often. You are paid for every class you attend. |

WHERE will you work? |

| Public schools, churches, township halls, fire stations, and public buildings are used as polling places. | |

| $ 10.00 | Extra for the Poll Worker (the opposite party of the Presiding Judge) who accompanies the Presiding Judge election night to the BOE office to assure the security of the voted & non-voted ballots and the memory cards. |

HOW do you apply? The Democratic and the Republican Central Committee members make recommendations for poll workers to the Board each year. You may contact the Committee person in your precinct and let them know that you are interested. (Click here for Central Committee Members.)
