In accordance with the Ottawa County Commissioners Resolution No.
07-88 dated October 8,
2007 and became effective January 1, 2008, any person desiring to install a
driveway, culvert pipe or excavate along any County or Township
Highway shall be required to obtain a driveway permit from the
Ottawa County Engineer for said work. This permit is also used to
install a culvert pipe for a field crossing in a public ditch, or to
fill in a ditch across your property or along any public water
course.
Only the property owner (applicant) may sign and
pay for this permit.
Applicants must pay a $100.00 permit fee with the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office.
This fee is to be paid by cash, check or money order.
Keep in mind that when installing a driveway or
filling in a ditch along side any County or Township Highway,
the Ottawa County Engineer will not allow surface water to be
directed toward the road. This may create ponding of water on
the roadway surface, which could create a safety hazard.
NOTE: Concrete driveways shall be kept back six foot (6') from
the edge of the road pavement.

Existing Driveway Permit |

The construction of driveway entrances are to be completed using the
Driveway Permit outlined above.
However, there are occasions when a drive exists on a parcel and the
Ottawa County Engineer’s Office cannot locate a permit for the
original installation. For these instances we ask the property owner
to complete an Existing Driveway Information Sheet. We use this
information to verify the existence of the drive, then keep the
information on file with the driveway permits for future reference.
There are no fees associated with this, and only the property
owner may sign the form.
NOTE: Concrete driveways shall be kept back to the right-of-way
limits.

Road Crossing Permit |

In accordance with the Ottawa County Commissioners
Resolution No. 97-03 dated January 2, 1997, any person desiring to
place a conduit under any County or Township Highway that
necessitates cutting and/or digging the pavement and subgrades shall
be required to obtain a permit from the County Engineer and place a
guarantee of $500.00 for pavement and subgrade restoration. This
shall also apply to anyone proposing to excavate in the public
right-of-way for the purpose of boring under any County or Township
Highway. The County Engineer and/or Township Trustees shall
determine if the pavement can be open cut or not. Age, condition,
and daily traffic flow will be considered regarding allowing an open
cut.
The guarantee will be refunded only if all requirements established
by the Ottawa County Engineer are met and the permitted work is
completed to the satisfaction of the Ottawa County Engineer.

Storm Sewer Tap Permit |

In accordance with the Ottawa County Commissioners Resolution No.
97-03 dated January 2, 1997, any person desiring to work along any
County or Township Highway shall be required to obtain a permit from
the Ottawa County Engineer.
This permit is for anyone wishing to tap an
existing storm sewer across his or her property with a storm,
field or curtain drain tile. You do not need this permit to
outlet your tile into an open ditch.
With this permit, there is no fee and only the property owner
may sign the permit.

Curtain Drain Outlet Permit |

This permit
grants a property owner permission to use a ditch (or tile) as an
outlet for a curtain drain from a sewage system. It is issued in
conjunction with the Ottawa County District Board of Health.
The Ottawa County District Board of Health will prepare a site plan
for the placement of your septic system and make a recommendation
for the location of your outlet. A copy of this site plan has to be
submitted to this office along with the Curtain Drain Outlet Permit.
If
your outlet is going into an open ditch on your side of the
road, you will not be required to obtain additional permits from
this office. However, if you plan to cross the road and/or tap a
tile, additional permits will be needed. For tapping a tile

There are no fees associated with this permit and only property

Special Permit |

In accordance with the Ottawa County Commissioners Resolution No.
97-03 dated January 2, 1997, any person desiring to excavate along
any County or Township Highway shall be required to obtain a permit
from the Ottawa County Engineer for said excavation.
This permit is for those individuals desiring to
work within the right-of-way limits of any County or Township
Highway. Type of work includes dip out or cleaning of a road or
public ditch, installing, repairing or upgrading any sanitary
sewer, water, natural gas, oil or petroleum, electric,
communications, irrigation, field or curtain drain tiles,
cables, conduits or lines, catch basins or manholes and road
pavements.
There is no fee for this permit and only the property owner may sign
the application.

Moving Permit |

The Moving
Permit is used to obtain permission to move a load/item across
county and/or township roads that is over the legal size and/or
weight limits. To request permission to make a move of this type,
print the attached form, fill in all the information, and fax it to
the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office at (419) 734-6768.
The party
that is conducting the move is the party to whom we will issue
the permit. Their full name (or company name), mailing address,
and phone number is required.
The route
information needs to be detailed. Include road names, numbers,
and direction of travel on each road. Start this information
when the load enters Ottawa County and end where it leaves. If
an Ohio Department of Transportation permit is obtained, please
fax a copy of this along with your completed form.
Special
requirements and or restrictions are noted at the bottom of our
application. These restrictions, and how they apply to the move,
will be considered when the application is reviewed for
approval.
