Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
Are you at nutritional risk?
Healthy eating is essential at all stages of life. Like all other age groups, seniors may be at nutritional risk, so supplementation of some nutrients may be necessary. Physical body changes take place during the process of aging that may impact one’s nutritional status. Other risk factors, which often make it challenging to meet the daily nutritional requirements, include economic troubles, chronic diseases, decreased mobility, and social isolation.
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is sponsored by The Toledo Seagate Food Bank, and distributes food packages monthly to enrolled persons.
To qualify for CSFP, a senior must be at least 60 years of
age and fall under the 130% of financial requirements
guidelines: $1037 monthly ($12,441 annual income) for a
household of one and $1,390 ($16,679 annual income) for a
household of two.
What is CSFP?
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides eligible persons a monthly package of food. Recipients receive a six-month refillable prescription for food.
CSFP food packages do not provide a complete diet, but rather are good sources of the nutrients typically lacking in the diets of the target population.
Local agencies determine the eligibility of applicants, distribute the foods, and provide nutrition education.
For more information about the CSFP Program or to find a distribution site near you, please call the Toledo Seagate Food Bank at 419-244-6996 or contact us via our Contact Us page.
