The Ohio Department of Natural Resources announced that Ohio State Parks are offering special discounts for active military and veterans. Today is the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings which saw 156,000 troops from the allied countries join forces and launch an audacious attack on the beaches of Normandy, these assaults are credited with the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany. The Department of Veterans Affairs is implementing a comprehensive national VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP) to give enrolled veterans and CHAMPVA beneficiaries the opportunity to purchase dental insurance through Delta Dental and MetLife at a reduced cost. Participation is voluntary. Purchasing a dental plan does not affect veterans’ eligibility for VA dental services and treatment.  (May 2014)

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced a new, secure identification card called the Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC).  New enrollees have been receiving the updated VHIC card.  The VA is putting forth the effort to automatically send an updated card to veterans previously enrolled in the healthcare system. President Obama signed into law a 1.7% cost of living adjustment for veterans benefits effective December 1, 2012 and should first appear in January payments. 

 

The Ohio Veterans Bonus has tentatively issued a deadline to file for service in Iraq, the deadline date will be December 31, 2014.

 

On August 6, 2012, President Obama signed into legislation "The Honoring America's Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012".  The Act provides for treatment of service members and their families who were exposed to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune as well as other provisions relating to privacy at military funerals, state care of veterans who are 70% service connected or greater, veteran sexual assault prevention and a pilot program for veterans with PTSD.
