Department Overview

The Ottawa County Department of Building Inspection is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the applicable State of Ohio Building codes for residential, commercial and industrial construction, alteration and additions to all public and private buildings and structures.

Building Codes provide the department's Inspectors with guidelines to help ensure the health, safety, and welfare of Ottawa County residents and our guests.

Responsibilities

Certified by the State of Ohio, The Ottawa County Building Inspection Department provides plan review, issues plan approvals and conducts inspection services for building, electrical, HVAC and mechanical, plumbing, medical gas and pressure piping and fire protection systems, code enforcement and information.

Office & Application Information

  • 24 hours advance notice is required for all inspections
  • The Chief Building Official also administers and implements the floodplain requirements for Ottawa County
  • Must have address, permit number and type of inspection when inspection is scheduled
  • No applications will be processed after 4 pm
