Veterans Service Overview

The Veterans Service Office is staffed with State and Nationally Accredited Service Officers that have a compassionate understanding of the problems which veterans and their dependents contend with. Assistance is provided in a variety of service, such as:

  • Appeals
  • Assist in ascertaining military documents and/or awards
  • Burial Benefits
  • Dependents and Survivor Benefits
  • Disability Pension
  • Education/Training
  • Headstones
  • Healthcare/Prescriptions
  • Home Loan Guaranty
  • Life Insurance
  • Military Discharge Review
  • Reserve and National Guard Benefits
  • Service Connected Compensation
  • Widows Pension

Additional Duties & Assistance

  • Provide advisement and assistance in ascertaining benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Provide Flag and Grave Marker to denote county Veteran's graves
  • Provide Flag Case to the family for the burial flag that was presented in honor of their loved one
  • Provide various medical and safety products to veterans and their family members at no cost
  • Schedule Tours/Transportation to the Ohio Veteran's Home

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ottawa County Veterans Service Commission is to ensure and preserve the basic, human and constitutional rights and maintenance of the services, benefits, and entitlements due to any veterans the fair and impartial application of the law (ORC Title 59) without regard to race, color, creed, sex, or station in life; treat all veterans with tolerance, compassion, dignity, and understanding that we, as Veterans Service Commissioners, would expect ourselves in similar conditions; provide temporary financial assistance with mutual respect and dignity; provide competent Service Officers and staff that are a direct link between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the client; and complete applications for the Ohio Veterans Homes.
